Wasatch Releases SoftRIP Version 5.1.5 With New Support for "Named" Spot Colors

Salt Lake City, UT, September 28, 2005 — Wasatch Computer Technology, LLC has announced the release of SoftRIP Version 5.1.5. A key feature introduced in this release is new support for spot color replacements using colors named within graphic application software. This is particularly useful for users implementing workflows with non-color elements like white ink and varnish.

In this feature enhancement, spot color replacements can be defined using named colors within a user's graphic application software. Wasatch SoftRIP then allows the user to select that color and define the processing to be applied to all colors bearing that name. For example, the name "White" can be assigned to a print head that contains white ink, and then the use of this print head can be directly specified by the graphic artist in their application software. The "tint", or "percentage" specifications made in the application software are applied to the replacement color, producing advanced results like white gradients easily through the RIP. Note that this "tint" information only applies to CMYK and Device color.

Version 5.1.5 also introduces support for new printing and cutting devices and new imaging configurations. Of particular note, SoftRIP's Contour Cutting Option now includes support for the popular Summa S Class D Series cutters. With the Wasatch Cutting Option, users can create easy cut paths in graphic applications like Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw, and Quark. The new supported Summa cutters include the SummaSign Pro S75, S120, S140, and S160 (D Series).
