Wasatch Makes White Ink Workflows Clear with SoftRIP Version 6.2
Salt Lake City, UT,
July 11, 2007
— Wasatch Computer Technology has released Wasatch SoftRIP version 6.2 overall speed improvements and new capabilities for implementing white ink workflows. SoftRIP will now fully color manage images while passing specialty non-color inks straight to the printer. White ink workflows are easier, while image quality is improved by taking advantage of SoftRIP's 16-bit color pipeline.
Look for significant speed benefits from this release as well. Halftone algorithms have been enhanced to produce 16-bit color with RIP times even faster than the previous 8-bit color pipeline in SoftRIP 6.0. New default print queue preference settings better the newest powerful computers by specifying different physical hard drives to store rip data. Disk read/write bottlenecks are avoided and users have more control in organizing large rip data files.
Wasatch users with valid service contracts as of July 11, 2007 are eligible for a free upgrade to version 6.2 as long as they request the upgrade before the end of their service contract. Learn more about upgrading at www.wasatch.com.
About White Ink Workflows
A new generation of printers are creating demand for special workflows that utilize white inks, varnishes and lacquers. Devices ranging from UV-cure flatbeds to direct digital garment printers require "non-color" separations to be laid over and under normal graphics in ways that are difficult to accomplish with normal PostScript based workflows.
Traditional white ink applications focused on producing a white base underneath a process color separation when printing on a dark surface. Another key application is "second surface" printing of process color on transparent film with white ink printed over the top. In these applications all the inks that make up the color image are printed together in a pass that is separate from the pass that lays down the white ink. Other applications involve simply using the white ink as a spot color in the graphic design.
