Print Mode

Pressing the Properties button next to the Printer Model window on the Imaging Configurations screen will launch a control panel for this printer.

This page of the properties sheet allows you to select a print mode, the dot size, the print direction, passes, and time between passes.

Media

When you click on Media, the following properties page will be displayed:

The Media page controls media type, media size, the feed source and allows you to select options to fine tune the type of media installed.

Advanced/Color Separations

When you click on Advanced/Color Separations, the following Properties page will be displayed:

Color Separations
The Color Separations controls become active when a Monochrome print mode is selected and Variable Dot is not selected.

Borderless Printing
Also on this tab are controls for the Borderless Printing option. This option allows you to output prints without any margins or borders. This is done by overprinting and then cutting into the print for the top and bottom, and overprinting into pads inside the printer for the left and right sides.
  1. Marginless printing is only valid for the following media widths:
  2. User should make the horizontal width of the image 3mm wider on both the right and left edges (6mm total) of the image to avoid white area caused by media skew. These areas are printed off the edge of the paper on the absorbing pad on the platen. No automatic scaling or magnification is done by either SoftRIP or the printer.
Note: You should have the paper width set to 6mm (.235") greater than the width of the paper. This may require first selecting the borderless printing option in the properties and secondly setting the paper width (or selecting Set Maximum Width) in the setup screen.
  3. Top and Bottom cut off setting: Select the type of cut desired.
    1. 1-Cut: Performs a quick cut with minimum waste between pages, but it may be slightly off of horizontal.
    2. 2-Cut: Cuts the image perfectly, but wastes space between pages.

Additional Notes for Custom Inksets

The Epson 11880 has 9 ink slots.  Only 8 of these can be used at any one time.   The default ink orders and types for this printer are as follows:

Ink Channel #
Ink Type
1
Light Magenta
2
Light light Black
3
Matte Black
4
Light Black
5
Light Cyan
6
Cyan
7
Magenta
8
Photo Black
9
Yellow

Because only 8 inks can be fired at any one time, the inkset creator will only show 8 slots for ink.  As such the order of inkset creator slot assignments to actual ink channel #'s will not be the same.  The Epson 11880 will fire either the ink in ink channel #3 if the installed ink type is set to matte black or to ink channel #8 if photo black is selected.  Because of this the the orders will be slightly skewed in the inkset creator.  Here is how to properly setup the inkset.

The main changes here are that what ever is in the actual channel #9 will always correspond to inkset creator slot #8.  And whatever is in actual channels #3 and # 8 will always correspond to inkset creator slot #3.  (#3 or #8 will be determined  by the installed ink type setting on the drivers property page)

Here are some examples of possible inksets you could create and how to set them up.

If you plan on switching between photo and black ink modes you should load slots #3 and 8# with the same ink.  (obviously this is not necessary if you are just staying in one of the modes)
